KashCal knows what day it is, and what changed while you were away

A calendar should know two things without being asked: what day it is, and what happened to your plans while you weren't looking. KashCal's last two releases teach it both.

Today's date, right on your home screen

Five KashCal app icons showing the dates 1, 8, 15, 22 and 31

KashCal's icon has said 31 since the day it shipped, which is right about seven days a year. Now you can have it show the real date. Open the account hub, tap App Icon, and pick Today's date.

Glance at your home screen and today's number is there. The next morning it shows the next one, without you opening the app. Change the clock, land in another time zone, restart your phone: it keeps up.

It's yours to choose. If you've grown fond of the 31, it keeps its job until you say otherwise, and it's one tap away in the same list if you want it back. Themed icons, the single-colour ones tinted to match your wallpaper, keep the plain calendar glyph.

Recent changes: what moved while you weren't looking

Shared calendars change behind your back. Someone moves Thursday's meeting, cancels one week of the book club, renames the trip, and the only clue is that your week looks a little different from the one you remember.

Open the account hub and tap Recent changes. It lists the past week of what came in from your synced calendars, grouped by the day it arrived: a new event, a meeting moved from Tuesday, one date of a series cancelled, a new place or title. Each row tells you what changed, and tapping it opens the event.

When a sync brings changes, a short message says how many; tap View to see them. Swipe a row away once you've seen it, or clear the lot. It works with your iCloud and CalDAV calendars.

Your calendar knows what day it is and what changed. It still won't tell you why the book club moved again.
